Coconut Laddu

The longing for sweets is really a yearning for love or “sweetness.”
― Marion Woodman

Its earliest form Narayl Nakru dates back to the time of the Chola Empire, when it was a sweet that was packed for travelers and warriors as a symbol of good luck for their expeditions.

Its an Indian traditional sweets originated from South India Mixed with aromatic spices(cardamon) will make your tongue swirl every corner of the mouth only after having first bite of it. The fresh grated coconut used to make this traditional sweet. To make it more rich in flavors and appearance; jaggery is used instead of sugar. Food we should avoid during rainy season!!!!

Monsoon Food Habits
Pic courtesy : Freepik.com

Rain comes with lots of puddles , thunder lighting and uncountable food cravings. Food and rain are the best and ultimate combinations. When it rains outside the window and while sitting and snuggling on the couch. Our taste-buds crave for some exciting flavors to melt in the mouth. But, in this romantic weather and with mesmerizing scene outside the window ,the diseases easily spread during this monsoon season. So when you have something in mind to order from your favorite restaurant think twice because eating wrong in this season as it may be like inviting diseases at your doorstep.

Rain also brings some health issues that can spoil your mood like food poisoning, diarrhea, dysentery and cholera. And not all are water-borne. So, it is necessary to keep a sharp eye on what you’re eating and drinking.

So, here are some food you should avoid during the monsoon..

1. Leafy vegetable: Leafy and green vegetable are preferred to be the best food for all the age groups. But during the monsoon season it is advised to avoid the leafy vegetables .Leafy veggies like spinach, methi etc, grow in the mud. In the rainy season, washing this dirt off the leaves can be a challenge, and often germs still remain on them, leading to stomach infections.

  • 2. Fried Food: People always relate “Rain and Pakoras” together. Fried food and bhajiyas are the best compliments for this rainy season. But during the monsoon season the digestive system becomes really weak. which naturally makes pakorassamosas and other fried foods less than ideal options. *bubble pops* Heavy foods like these could cause a tummy upset and bloating
  • 3. Roadside foods: It can be tempting seeing fried and well decorated food stalls beside the road but before trying any of the food item think about those germ floating on it.
  • 4.Beverage from the roadside: Water contamination is all too common in this rainy weather.  The fruits laying on the carts of roadside vendors are a perfect spot to host a fly/ mosquito party, and the ice used in these fruit juices probably carries germs and bacteria. Let’s not forget the lid-less tubs of water they use to dilute the juices as well.

NOTE:

  • Avoid using too much spice, as this promotes water retention and bloating. Go for medium or low salt food.
  • Use plenty of garlic, pepper, ginger, asafoetida, turmeric, coriander and jeera, all of which enhance digestive power and improve immunity.
  • Drink lots of water and preferably boiled water.
  • Use ginger to your tea or hot milk.
